Finding Myself OMG: A Bullshit Quest

Well, where do I start? I'm struggling, I suppose, to find out who I am outside of who my parents want me to be, who my friends want me to be, or who my own perfectionist tendencies (totally personified) want me to be. I don't know if this blog will really document my progress in, ahem, coming of age, or if it will just basically be a place for me to vent and blab about nothing. We shall see.

Male Roe v. Wade? Give me a fucking break.

I first saw this as a feature on ABC News the other night. It's fucking bullshit. You can watch the webcast here... it's later on in the show (about 9 to 9:30 min. in), but it's totally worth it to see how completely full of crap this guy is, and these people are. You can read a version of the ABC story here, by an AP reporter, which is what ran in our local paper the next day (I was gonna link right to pressconnects.com, but they seem to be having some kind of problem with their search system, which is a pain in the ass... come on, Press & Sun, I neeeeed you.).

I'm so disgusted by this whole thing that I'm having trouble composing coherent sentences. Just grrrrr. Seriously, grrrrr. What a fucking asshole. It's your kid, too... there's really no comparison between a woman choosing to have an abortion and a man choosing not to support the child once it's born. Even if it was an unplanned pregnancy. What, the woman should be forced to give the child up for adoption or have an abortion because the FUCKING MAN DOESN'T WANT THE KID? I mean, his girlfriend's raising the child. He's paying $500 a month in child support which... babies cost a lot, man. Children cost a lot. The mom's investing more with her time and her money than he is, I'll bet on it. It's not like he's being forced to have a relationship with the child or anything, OMG.

Can you imagine this poor kid when she grows up? How awful she'll feel, not only knowing that she was an unplanned pregnancy, but her dad didn't want her so badly that he sued?

I just... ugh. Fucking pisses me off. The Roe v. Wade comparison, especially. Lord knows, I'm no gung ho champion of abortion rights (I'm the only anti-abortion Democrat I know), but having an abortion when the baby is no more than a mass of cells and refusing to pay for a child once it's born are two totally different, completely different, issues.

I hope this man loses. I hope he and his Men's Rights friends lose badly. Men's Rights? Give me a fucking break. Men don't need any more rights. They're not exactly struggling to be treated equal... most of the time they're treated better than women, and they don't seem to complain about that. They want equality when it comes to making a decision about having babies? Let them carry a baby around for nine months and then push it out of a fucking teeny-tiny HOLE. Let them nurse it and care for it and have a fucking painful period every month as their body prepares for one. Then they can talk about having equal rights with women when it comes to unplanned pregnancy.

Hey, Matt fucking Dubay and all your ilk, there's this wonderful invention I'd like to tell you about: it's called a condom! It's birth control that you can choose. You put it on your dick and then no spermies meet eggies. Everything's hunkydory!

I'm going to stop now. I could probably vent about this for hours, but I won't. I WILL SHOW RESTRAINT.

Seriously, though, fuck 'em. Fuck 'em with a condom.

I've worked for a LOT of political campaigns, and there's a lot of anti-abortion Ds out there. I promise. You're not so strange.

The thing is, most anti-A D's think that we should be working on education and whatnot to help get the abortion rate down, and R's just want to arbitrarily legislate the hell out of it.

    But good post!

Hey, Mar-see-ah! Lol, I always yell at peole when they pronounce my name that way. ;)

I exaggerated that I'm the only anti-A Dem I know... I can, indeed, think of a few others. I think it's just that I'm currently surrounded by such hardcore Pro-Choicers that it's hard to remember that.

Exactly! I was trying to explain this to my boss a couple weeks ago while we were out canvassing. She said something to the effect of, "You think that you have the right to tell other women what to do with their bodies?" and I kept trying to tell her, "No, not really. But to a certain extent..." Basically, I feel that abortion is morally wrong (they got me in Catholic school with all those creepy fetus pictures), but I don't think we could feasibly legislate against it in this point in history. There needs to be education first, and possibly available free birth control, and hopefully we can get to a place where we won't need to legislate, abortions will just peter off by themselves.

Anyway, thanks for reading! And btw, very sexy shoe in the icon!

Truly a short and opinionated rant, well said from your point of view. Lets consider this though, having kids is purely a female choice (read Roe Vs Wade, bodily integrity etc are only some of the abortion reasons, a lot of the wording goes for things like can't affor the kid or don't want one right now). Men however don't have this choice, and lets be blunt casual sex is a norm now adays, we may not approve of it but its a fact of life.

Even a former president of NOW said that if Women can make a unilateral decision then they alone must bear the costs. To claim that this is horrible and terrible is to blow it out of all proportion, lets be serious and call a spade a spade, this would be equality in giving both parents the option to opt out of parenthood (preganancy is not exactly the most risky thing anymore in life).

Now you may dislike my views but thats your opinion, I personally think a lot of women should keep it in their pants and the divorce rate should drop but thats something I personally can't change yet...
